Gyne-Lotrimin cream is an antifungal medicine. It works by weakening the cell membrane of the fungus, resulting in the death of the fungus.
If you are using this cream externally, squeeze a small amount onto your fingertip and gently apply to the irritated skin around the vagina. Wash your hands immediately after using Gyne-Lotrimin Cream. To clear up your infection completely, use Gyne-Lotrimin Cream for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days.
Gyne-Lotrimin Cream is for vaginal use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth. If you get Gyne-Lotrimin Cream in your eyes, flush with a generous amount of cool water. Continue using Gyne-Lotrimin Cream even during your menstrual period. Do not use tampons while you are using Gyne-Lotrimin. Do not have vaginal sexual intercourse while you are using Gyne-Lotrimin Cream. The cream should not be used for vulvar itching due to causes other than a yeast infection. Gyne-Lotrimin Cream should not be used in children younger than 12 years old.
Some medical conditions may interact with Gyne-Lotrimin Cream. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant; if you have the blood disease porphyria or a history of liver disease or diabetes, or you have been exposed to HIV; if this is the first time you have had vaginal itching and discomfort; if you have vaginal yeast infections often (eg, your symptoms return within 2 months) or your symptoms do not clear up with treatment. Do not use Gyne-Lotrimin Cream if you are allergic to any ingredient in Gyne-Lotrimin, if you have never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor, if you have stomach, shoulder, or lower back pain; fever; chills; nausea; foul-smelling vaginal discharge; or vomiting.
Possible side effect
The most common side are mild vaginal burning, irritation, or itching. Seek medical attention right away if you have severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); fever or chills; foul-smelling vaginal discharge; nausea; severe or prolonged vaginal burning, irritation, or itching; stomach pain; swelling; vomiting.
Some medication may interact with Gyne-Lotrimin Cream. However, no specific interactions with Gyne-Lotrimin cream are known at this time.
If you miss a dose of Gyne-Lotrimin Cream, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
If you use topical products too often, your condition may become worse. Seek for emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
Store Gyne-Lotrimin at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Gyne-Lotrimin vaginal out of the reach of children and away from pets.
